Treasure hunting can be a hobby that reaps amazing rewards if you know how to do it properly. Until recently, I was always aware of those who went treasure hunting for riches, but upon meeting my neighbor I discovered how much more it means to those who love this hobby.
My neighbor treasure hunts for rare bottles. In his display of treasures he has old milk bottles that haven't been used for decades and even old medicine and tincture bottles. There is a club he belongs to who meet regularly and share their discoveries with one another, and they also go on treasure hunting expeditions for weekends at a time.
So you can imagine my surprise when discovering these clubs exist. But you don't need to belong to a club for treasure hunting. With some few basic supplies, an idea of what you may be searching for and a little geographic knowledge, you'll soon be searching and finding your own treasures.
Treasure hunters need to have a lot of patience and be able to sort through items of value and those that may be junk. It's a good idea to know what you may be searching for so you can decipher what may be treasure.
So put on your Indiana Jones hat, get your pen and paper prepared and get ready to learn about treasure hunting for beginners.
WHAT ITEMS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN?
There are so many things people can search for that will classify as treasure hunting. You could search for money and old coins, gold, crystals, old bottles, crockery, dolls, antiques and even watches.
You'll need to have patience when searching out somewhere to hunt for treasure, as you may find other things than what you originally sort out to find.
EQUIPMENT
Depending on the item you're looking for you will need some basic equipment.
A metal detector is a great item to first purchase. Ensure your metal detector is high quality so that it can locate items you're looking for. Metal detectors can be quite expensive depending on its abilities; some are more sensitive than others whereas others have the ability to search deeper under the earth's surface.
So, depending on what you're searching for and how long it may have been buried will be your deciding factor on which metal detector you purchase.
You will also need to shovel if your buried treasure lays deep underground.
Searching for gold may include a lot of equipment, you may need a gold pan, metal detector or a cradle if searching for gold.
