To put a value on an antique is a tricky business. There will naturally be some subjectivity involved as the decided value will depend on several factors. These include the following;

1.	The authenticity of the object.

2.	Age - Generally speaking, the older the item, the more will be the expected value.

3.	How rare it is. For example, an artefact that is one of a kind will attract a higher value than something that has several copies.

4.	Historic significance will definitely add tremendous value to an antique.

5.	The principle of supply and demand applies to antiques as with any other item. This goes along with rarity but is slightly different. An item that is rare need not be in demand.

6.	The aesthetic appeal of the item.

7.	General condition - An item maintained in mint condition will naturally fetch a higher price.

8.	Many antiques are sold at auction. The effectiveness of marketing can also have an impact on the final value. You can gauge this response and adjust the price accordingly.

9.	Unique features - Some features may be significant for particular items. For example the color and presence of embossing and design of a bottle will influence its price.

10.	When in doubt seek the advice of professionals in that area. Useful organizations include The American Society of Appraisers and the International Society of Appraisers

When attempting to determine the value of your antique simply consider all of the above factors. That should give you a good starting point. Ask the experts if you think you need further input.
